Make-A-Wish grants life-changing wishes to critically ill children and their families. Illinois Make-A-Wish is celebrating forty years this May.
In the past forty years, they have granted 1,900 wishes. Because of IBN donations, twenty-nine wishes have been granted.
Last year, six-year-old Elaina and her family received a trip to Disney World where she met her favorite princess. Elaina suffers from Pyruvate Kinase Deficiency (PKD). This is a rare genetic disorder that leads to the breakdown of red blood cells at a faster than normal rate. As a result, Elaine receives a blood transfusion every three weeks. In addition to PKD, she suffers from a rare cerebrovascular disorder called Moyamoya Disease. Sadly, this disorder reduces blood flow and has caused multiple strokes.
In the twenty-nine years the IBN has partnered with Make-A-Wish, we have donated over $250,000. To continue this vital mission, the IBN recently presented a check for $6,000 to Make-A-Wish Illinois. This contribution will help the chapter reach its goal of granting 600 wishes this year, bringing hope and happiness to children just like Elaina.
